Penguin Group Announces Mad Libs Pop-Up Booth at Comic-Con International San Diego
New York, NY — Penguin Young Readers Group announced today that the classic fill-in-the-blank word game Mad Libs will exhibit for the first time ever at Comic-Con® International: San Diego. The pop-up booth (#4612) will showcase a wide variety of Mad Libs merchandise including a selection of classic Mad Libs and Adult Mad Libs books for sale. Mad Libs began as a cocktail party icebreaker in the 1950s, and has since become the world’s most popular word game, with over 120 million Mad Libs sold since 2001 and over 5.2 million downloads of the mobile app.
Mad Libs will also partner with Cartoon Network Enterprises on a series of co-branded products that feature the popular characters of the hit Cartoon Network original series Adventure Time. These products include t-shirts from BioWorld Merchandising, and glassware and mugs by Classic Imports, and will also be for sale at the Mad Libs pop up shop.
“At Penguin, we love Mad Libs. And we seriously love Adventure Time, too. And when we mashed those two together and made Adventure Time Mad Libs—one of our bestsellers—we knew we were on to something. We’re all so excited to continue to work with Cartoon Network to give our fans new, even cooler products that combine the awesomeness of Adventure Time and the wackiness of Mad Libs!” said Francesco Sedita, President & Publisher of Price Stern Sloan, an imprint of Penguin Young Readers Group.
The Mad Libs booth will also be a stop on the third annual “Adventure Time ConQuest.” This fan-favorite activity will once again send fans on a journey across the convention floor to visit select participating booths. Along the way, they’ll also receive incentives, premiums and rebates for some of their favorite Adventure Time products featured throughout the con.
The Mad Libs booth will showcase its exclusive line of Mad Libs, activity books, journals and much more based on Adventure Time, and will be giving away free buttons exclusively to ConQuest participants. With the purchase of any three Adventure Time Mad Libs books, customers will also receive a free Adventure Time Mad Libs tote bag.
The Mad Libs booth will also be raffling off a Regular Show Mad Libs, signed by Regular Show creator J.G. Quintel, in addition to selling the full line of Regular Show activity books and Mad Libs. Also available for purchase at the pop up shop, will be a variety of additional Mad Libs merchandise including t-shirts (BioWorld), and drinkware (iCUP).
When Leonard Stern and Roger Price first created Mad Libs, it was an inventive and unpredictable game they played with their friends at cocktail parties. In 1958, the legendary talk show host Steve Allen used Mad Libs to hilariously introduce guests. Three days later, stores across the country had completely sold out of Mad Libs, and a star was born.
