The Lullaby Project

The Lullaby Project for Carnegie Hall’s Musical Connections, an outreach program that brings music to mothers in need, — in hospitals, shelters, prisons, and more — provides new and expectant mothers with the chance to compose their own lullabies. The project highlights the community-building power of song and speech.
Lullabies also slow down language, and in doing so probably make it easier for a baby to follow…studies suggest that sustained musical training develops skills essential to reading, spatial reasoning and, to some extent, the learning of secondary languages. (The New York Times)
