National Ambassador Gene Luen Yang on “Reading Without Walls”
As part of his platform, “Reading Without Walls,” Yang will travel across the country inspiring readers of all ages to pick up books presenting diverse cultures, content, and formats.
Number one, pick up a book by someone who doesn’t look like [you], from another culture or faith tradition or way of life. Two is to pick up a book on a topic [you] might have previously found intimidating. One of my little pet projects is figuring out ways of getting kids engaged in STEM topics—science, technology, engineering, and math—through stories. The third way is to experience stories in different formats. (Book Riot)
