#DVpit Returns April 2017
#DVpit is a Twitter event created to showcase pitches from marginalized voices. This includes (but is not limited to): Native peoples and people of color; people living and/or born/raised in underrepresented cultures and countries; disabled persons (including neurodiverse); people living with illness; people on marginalized ends of the socioeconomic, cultural and/or religious spectrum; people identifying within LGBTQIA+; and more.
The first #DVpit took place on April 19, 2016 and was a national trending hashtag. Since then, there have been over 25 authors signed by agents and 5 book deals contracted as a direct result of this event, with editors from small to mid-size to Big Five publishers requesting to receive the manuscripts at submission stage.
The event was created and is moderated by Beth Phelan, a literary agent at the Bent Agency.
#DVpit for Children’s & Teen Projects (picture books, chapter books, graphic novel, middle grade, young adult) will take place April 25th, 8AM-8PM ET.
Get involved between now and then through some of the ancillary events happening below:
- #PreDV: April 6, 2017 9AM-5PM ET: Participants can practice their pitches using the hashtag #PreDV and volunteers and fellow participants can offer critiques and suggestions to help them hone those pitches before the big day.
- #DVChat: April 12, 2017 9PM-10PM ET: #DVpit alum Kat Cho will moderate a Twitter chat with some of the other #DVpit successes. They’ll talk about writing, pitching, and diversity in publishing. People can follow along on the hashtag #DVChat.
- #askDVpit: April 19, 2017 8PM-9PM ET: We will host an open Q&A on Twitter. #DVpit hopefuls can tweet questions using the hashtag #askDVpit and one of the publishing professionals will answer.
