The Growing Good Kids Book Awards Committee Looking for Publisher Nominations for 2019!
The Junior Master Gardener Program & American Horticultural Society partner to host the “Growing Good Kids – Excellence in Children’s Literature” Book Awards program. The mission of the book awards program is to recognize those children’s books that are especially effective at promoting an understanding of, and appreciation for plants, gardening & the environment.
***The 2019 Growing Good Kids Book Awards Committee is CURRENTLY ACCEPTING nominations for books published in 2018. The nomination form and procedure is below. Nominations must be received by May 1, 2019.***
Award winners are selected from children’s picture books that are plant, gardening and ecology-themed. To be considered, titles should be works of fiction or have a strong narrative element. The criteria for selection encompass two primary areas:
- The power of the story to:
• engage children
• effectively promote an understanding of and appreciation for gardening/plants and the environment
• convey a positive message effectively - The power of the illustration/design to:
• appeal to children
• represent the story effectively
• promote an understanding of and appreciation for gardening/plants and the environment
