Meg Wolitzer Defends Adults Who Read Y.A.
“In fact, there’s just far too much variety in Y.A. to define it or dismiss it, and I don’t feel obliged to cast off my teenage reading habits as if they were the Earth Shoes I wore at 13. Books not only sometimes stay with you; they can become you. Last year I joined a ‘kid lit’ book group, which gets together to read Y.A. and middle-grade books. At the time, I was finishing my own Y.A. book and was curious to join the conversation, but what mostly drew me there was what drew me to write Y.A. in the first place: the desire for a particular feeling.” (The New York Times)
