In Book 2, the boys welcome a new member to The Bulldoggers Club. Opie is that most elusive of creatures: a boy who not only reads everything he can get his hands on but also retains everything he reads — no matter how silly, no matter how scientific. He’ll be joining the Bulldoggers on their first big road trip together.

Closed up together in the cab of a pickup for ten hours, Dru isn’t so sure Opie’s talent is the best of qualities for a Bulldogger to have. It is, after all, a thin line between helpful knowledge and annoying know-it-all.

But Dru’s concerns about Opie can’t dull the boys’ excitement about getting out of town and on the open road. Everything is going according to plan, when they enter the Oklahoma Panhandle only to get stranded after a flash flood. With tornadoes threatening, it will take all their resources to ride out this storm in a place much older and hardier men long ago dubbed “No Man’s Land.”
