“AA Milne’s character, though, is no stranger to being commercially exploited. It is more than 80 years since the author sold commercial rights to his Winnie-The-Pooh character. In 1930, three years after the publication of Now We Are Six, his final Pooh book, Milne was paid $1,000 by the film producer Stephen Slessinger, along with two thirds of Slessinger’s income. It was an unprecedented deal for an author that gave birth to the modern licensing agreement. A year later, Winnie-the-Pooh had become a $50 million business.”
