On September 11, the ECC held a lively Sales 101 Panel, decoding the often mysterious department for our members who work in editorial, design, marketing, and publicity. Panelists were Dave Epstein, Vice President of Children’s Sales at Hachette Book Group; Jessica Abel, Digital Account Manager at HarperCollins Children’s Books; and Jess Cullen, Special Markets Coordinator at Abrams Books. Moderated by Matt Dinda, Sales Coordinator at Abrams, panelists spoke briefly about their job responsibilities and then discussed sales calls, co-op, what they take away from launch meetings, which materials they find helpful, and how sales works together with other departments.
