The 9th Annual Extreme Trivia Challenge! | November 15, 2012
By Nicole Deming
The ECC’s 9th Annual Extreme Trivia Challenge was held at Scholastic’s headquarters last Wednesday. More than 30 children’s-book-publishing staffers braved the rain (and snow!) to vie for the glorious golden bunny trophies in our signature contest of children’s literature knowledge. The event was hosted by Newbery-Award-winning author Linda Sue Park. Check out pics from the night here!
Congratulations to the evening’s champion “Know-It-Alls”!
Susan Dobinick (FSG)
Allegra Green (Little, Brown)
Rotem Moscovich (Disney)
Amy Rosenbaum (S&S)
Stephanie Stein (Harper)
Bunny ears off to the second-place team!
Chelsea Eberly (RH)
Allison Moore (LBYR)
Molly O’Neill (Harper)
Leila Sales (Penguin)
Becky Shapiro (Scholastic)
The event’s clever and challenging gauntlet of questions about kid lit — based on both canonical and new-on-the-scene titles, as well as kid lit industry news — was devised over several weeks by members of the ECC board. Questions included:
- How many animals does Bear have to ask “Have you seen my hat?” before he first meets the rabbit who stole his hat? A: Two
- List the first names of the four children in the Boxcar Children books, from oldest to youngest. A: Henry, Jessie, Violet, and Benny
- At the end of Charlotte’s Web — which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year — Wilbur is awarded a special medal at the county fair. He is so overwhelmed from all the excitement that he faints. How is he revived? A: Templeton the rat bites Wilbur’s tail
- What is the name of Ivan’s stuffed gorilla in the book The One and Only Ivan? A: No-Tag
Huge thanks to all of our valiant players and to our Early Career Committee board for their exquisitely challenging questions!
