Vasilisa the Wise

In Vasilisa the Wise and Other Tales of Brave Young Women, Australian author, storyteller and fairytale scholar Kate Forsyth has retold stories of magical transformation that were once passed on to young women by their mothers and grandmothers and the wise women of the clan. The heroines of these old tales set out on a difficult road of trials to discover their true destiny. And marrying a prince was not the only goal. These ancient tales of wonder and adventure are about learning to be strong, brave, kind and true-hearted, and trusting in yourself to change the world for the better. Illustrator Lorena Carrington has interpreted the tales through her incredible photographs wherein she combines many separate elements into detailed montages, relating darkness with light, a dichotomy she explains as unveiling the heart of the tale and the hidden strengths of its protagonists.
