We Need Diverse Books Announces Short Story Contest
Phoebe Yeh, VP/Publisher of Crown Books for Young Readers/Random House, has acquired publication rights to the collection, which will be edited by WNDB President Ellen Oh for release in January 2017. Contributing authors include Kwame Alexander, Sherman Alexie, Soman Chainani, Matt de la Pena, Tim Federle, Grace Lin, Meg Medina, Rachel Renee Russell, and Jacqueline Woodson. One story will be reserved for a previously unpublished diverse author, selected through WNDB’s short story contest.
The anthology will be dedicated to the late author and National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature Walter Dean Myers, taking inspiration from his words: “Once I began to read, I began to exist.”
Entries will be accepted from 9:00 AM EST on April 27th through 5:00 PM EST on May 8th, 2015, and the winner will be announced on June 15, 2015.
