Scholastic Acquires Book By YouTube Star Jenn McAllister (JennXPenn)
NEW YORK, NY — Scholastic (NASDAQ: SCHL), the global children’s publishing, education and media company, has acquired world rights to 18-year-old YouTube personality Jenn McAllister’s (JennXPenn) Really Professional Internet Person, a personal and funny guide to creating successful online content and handling the pressures of internet fame.
Really Professional Internet Person (paperback ISBN: 978-0-545-86112-0, ebook ISBN: 0-545-86113-6, $14.95) will feature top ten lists, photos, screenshots, social media posts and never-before-posted stories and will chronicle the 18-year-old’s personal journey from shy middle-schooler to YouTube sensation. The book, which will allow McAllister to share her unique voice with readers beyond her 2 million person fan base online, is slated to be published simultaneously in paperback and ebook formats in September 2015.
The deal was negotiated for Scholastic by Debra Dorfman, VP and Publisher, Scholastic, Rana Zand of Big Frame, Matt Saver and UTA on behalf of Jenn McAllister.
“Jenn has an incredible voice for teens, inspiring them to be authentic while encouraging them to not take everything so seriously,” said Debra Dorfman. “Everyone knows Jenn is passionate about her videos and that same dedication is evident in her new book. We are Jenn ‘followers’ and are so glad she is now part of the Scholastic family.”
“Being able to work with a publisher like Scholastic isn’t something everyone stumbles upon in their lifetime, so to have this incredible opportunity to share the things I don’t necessarily open up about in my day-to-day life was liberating,” said Jenn McAllister. “I’m excited for my fans to get an inside look at my journey mixed in with my humor, and to continue to grow with me through the book both mentally and emotionally.”
