Author and Editor Andrea Davis Pinkney on Championing Diversity
Pinkney recently attended the Texas Library Association’s Children’s Book Diversity summit, where she was encouraged by signs of a unified effort on the diversity front. Going forward, she hopes to see publishers, librarians, and other industry influencers respond to “calls-to-action,” particularly by increasing discoverability of diverse titles.
I feel so fortunate to now be among a community of like-minded people. There’s such a robust dialogue happening today…As a member of the Children’s Book Council Diversity Committee, I’ve enjoyed working with my publishing colleagues to create diversity programming, weekly blogs, curated resources for librarians, teachers, parents, writers, and publishing professionals, inclusive children’s and YA book lists, and more.
