U.S.A. Gold® Pencils Announces Student Poetry Contest Winners
Students from Michigan, Mississippi and Colorado Take Home Top Prizes
Irvine, CA – June 15, 2016 – U.S.A. Gold®pencils today announced the winners of its first student poetry contest, created together with Scholastic, in celebration of National Poetry Month. Three grand prize winners and six runners-ups in three different grade brackets were selected among more than 14,000 entries to receive prizes and merchandise totaling more than $3,300.
The contest asked kids to write original poems to answer the question, “What makes the USA special to you?” U.S.A. Gold aimed to inspire kids to learn more about our country and express their thoughts through hand-written poetry.
“We were blown away by the great original work the teachers submitted on behalf of their students,” said Shantelle Taylor, Senior Manager Global Brand Marketing, Mega Brands America Inc. “There were so many amazing poems. Picking the winners was a tough job. We congratulate everyone who participated.”
The grand prize winners were:
- Grades 1-2: Corinne Alrawi, Birmingham, MI. Poem titled, “What American Means to Me”
- Grades 2-3: Jaidon Osborne, Crystal Springs, MS. Poem titled, “Dear America”
- Grades 4-5: Logan Watson, Lakewood, CO. Poem titled, “America, the Land of the Free”
Each child won a cash prize of $500, plus $50 in U.S.A. Gold®pencils. Teachers of the winning students also received a $150 American Express® gift card, plus $100 worth of stationery products including U.S.A. Gold®pencils, an electric pencil sharpener and erasers.
