National Ambassador Gene Luen Yang on Superheroes and the Outsider Experience

As the child of Chinese immigrants, Yang identified with Superman and other costumed heroes navigating multiple cultures. Yang has reinvented the genre for today’s diverse audience through his “New Super-Man” series, which sets the familiar story in China.
