Beyond the Page: Jo Rooks

This week we are excited to feature Jo Rooks, author of Lucy’s Light (Magination Press, August 2019). Get to know her through fun questions below.

What’s your favorite (current or all-time) movie, dessert, and adult book?M

Movie: Moulin Rouge

Dessert: Chocolate Fondant with vanilla ice-cream (pod flecks please!)

Adult Book: The Time Traveller’s Wife By Audrey Niffenegger

What kind of cheese would you be and why?

I would say Cornish Yarg. It’s my favourite. It’s a delicious cheese from the South West of the UK. It’s wrapped in a layer of dried nettles (which my very humorous husband think is a fitting cheese to suit my personality – Thanks honey!)

What was your favorite children’s TV show and why?

My favourite TV show would be Mr Benn.  It’s weird and a bit surreal in a 70’s British kind of way.  It’s about a man who goes to the fancy dress shop and according to what outfit he chooses, then ends up in another world.  I still love the shop assistant who wears a Fez hat. Seriously, if you haven’t seen it its worth looking up.

Tell us one fun insider-fact about Lucy’s Light.

Lucy’s Light is dedicated to my niece Lucy-Jo who is also very speedy like Lucy but usually on the football pitch.  Lucy-Jo devours books and so I was so pleased when she gave this book the thumbs up. I also found out after I had written the book and chosen the character name that the name ‘Lucy’ derives from the Latin meaning for ‘light’.  So that worked out rather well and makes me look like I’m terribly clever and I planned it that way!
