Looking to Get Involved This Banned Books Week?

Our partners at the National Coalition Against Censorship (NCAC) are organizing Right to Read Night, a one-night book club that is easy to host. At this moment, when schools, libraries, and freedoms are being threatened, local groups will be gathering together across the nation for the Right to Read Night!

During Banned Books Week (October 5-11, 2025), people can come together for a discussion of the chosen featured banned book, Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson. Just one of the thousands of books targeted by censors, this deeply moving novel tells the story of an enslaved teenager’s struggle for freedom during the American Revolution.

Follow NCAC’s step-by-step guide (toolkit) to help your community join the nationwide movement and organize your very own Right to Read Night.

Visit RightToReadNight.com and follow #RightToReadNight to join a meaningful evening of discussion. Fight for the Right to Read today!

The Children’s Book Council joins with all who are in the fight against book bans, and our work and resources can be seen here.
