Day in the Life (In Office): Maggie Salko

Marketing Manager at Candlewick Press/ Holiday House/ Peachtree.

Day: Thursday, February 5th, 2026

9:00 AM: My official workdays get started around 9am. On days when I come into the office, like today, I like to swing by a cafe first since diving into your inbox is always easier with a pastry and coffee.

10:00 AM: Around 10am, I’ll be caught up on any emails I have lingering in my inbox from yesterday and will have connected with my team members about any outstanding questions either of us may have. At this point, I can finally get started on any projects on my plate. During the start of the month, I typically use this time to work on next month’s consumer content, such as March’s newsletters or website content.

11:00 AM: Every Thursday, our Sales and Marketing departments meet to go over priority titles and check in on the status of upcoming releases. During this meeting, I take notes and pay attention to anything extra that marketing can do to support the sales department in their efforts.

12:00 PM: Lunch! On warm days, I’ll grab lunch from a food cart and sit near the Bowling Green, but since it’s winter, I typically pick up soup and head back to my office to read whatever fun novel I’m digesting in my free time.

1:00 PM:  Back to work! If I’m feeling in a good place with my continual tasks, I’ll switch over to a different project. Right now, I’m beginning to spend more time on BookCon prep and getting everything together before the big weekend in April!

3:00 PM: During this point in the day, I typically have another meeting. It varies week to week; sometimes I meet with my smaller consumer marketing team, or I’ll have a meeting with a title-based team. In today’s case, I’m meeting with an ad rep to discuss promotions.

4:00 PM: By 4 pm, I’m beginning to wind down for the day. I’ll tie up any loose ends I left open and will work on necessary but low-stress work. On some days, I chip away at uploading A+ content to our backlist, on others, I’ll get some reading done so I’m caught up on our frontlist.

5:30 PM: At this point, I’ve closed my laptop and have headed to the elevators, ready to do it all again tomorrow!
