LeVar Burton: “[Reading] Represents the Ultimate Freedom of Mankind”
On Wednesday, May 14, Burton will receive the Children’s Book Council’s and Every Child a Reader’s Impact Award — which pays tribute to an individual whose actions or programs have creatively and significantly moved forward our collective mission of instilling a lifelong love of reading in children.
Says Burton, “If you are a reader, then you have the ability to educate yourself…When you have the ability to be a lifelong learner, there are no limits on what you can acquire in terms of knowledge and information. It represents the ultimate freedom of mankind.”
