Drag Story Hour NYC Posters
Three new Get Caught Reading posters
Every Child a Reader and Drag Story Hour NYC are proud to announce three new Get Caught Reading posters for schools, libraries, and bookstores featuring storytelling artists.
Drag Story Hour NYC produces storytelling and creative arts programs for children and teens, presented by local drag artists, in libraries, schools, and other community spaces in all five boroughs of New York City, and virtually. Through fun and fabulous educational experiences, our programs celebrate gender diversity and all forms of difference to build empathy and give kids the confidence to express themselves however they feel comfortable.
Featured on the posters are:
Yuhua Hamasaki is a Chinese immigrant who has found her own voice through the art of drag. She encourages others to do the same by always being proud of who they are meant to be in this beautiful world. Her drag character is her own invention of a superhero that has given her courage, confidence, and happiness. She especially loves to explore the city and be creative in her spare time!
Harmonica Sunbeam has been a drag performer for over 30 years, delighting wildly diverse audiences with her love of all things fabulous and shiny. In addition to television and film, she works extensively with Drag Story Hour, to promote creativity, non-conformity, literacy, and positive LGBTQIA+ role models. She has been recognized for her advocacy, activism, and diverse work, with numerous awards, including the Defender of the Right to Read Award from the Bayard Rustin Center for Social Justice.
Oliver ThePlace (He/They) is a two-spirited boricua drag king, sideshow performer, producer, and host from New York! They have been a performer at heart since they were a child and are passionate about spreading the love for performing! They are a storyteller for Drag Story Hour NYC and fell in love with stories from a young age. They aim to spread equity through representation in literacy and existing as their full selves! He is a member of the Black Cherry Sideshow, an all-Trans BIPOC sideshow collective!
