‘Rookie Yearbook 3’ Cover and Guest Contributors Revealed
New York, NY – Tavi Gevinson, editor-in-chief and founder of Rookie, revealed the cover of Rookie Yearbook 3 and announced the contributors to the jumbo, full-color compendium today. Featuring the best of rookiemag.com from the previous year, this exclusive-to-print content will include entries from Haim, Lorde, Shailene Woodley, Sia, Elle and Dakota Fanning and more. Rookie Yearbook 3 will be published by Razorbill, an imprint of Penguin Young Readers Group, on October 21, 2014.
The exclusive content for Rookie Yearbook 3 can be found in a bonus section at the back of the book. It includes words of wisdom from synthpop goddess Grimes, talented sisters Elle and Dakota Fanning (Maleficent, Twilight), this year’s breakout star Shailene Woodley (The Fault in Our Stars, Divergent), Grammy-nominated hip hop O.G. and certified chef Kelis, multi Grammy Award winning teen breakout artist Lorde, Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson, creators of the critically acclaimed Comedy Central series Broad City (95% “Certified Fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes), Grammy nominated singer-songwriter Sia, acclaimed pop rock group and recent Nylon Magazine cover girls Haim, exclusive content from Fox’s cult comedy series, Bob’s Burgers, and Tavi Gevinson herself.
After acquiring Rookie Yearbooks 3 and 4 in a competitive auction last winter, Razorbill, an imprint of Penguin Young Readers Group, has purchased the publishing rights to Rookie’s backlist titles as well: Rookie Yearbooks 1 and 2 edited by Tavi Gevinson. Rookie (rookiemag.com) is an online magazine for teenage girls with monthly-themed content that includes life lessons, diary entries, DIY projects, playlists and interviews with cultural icons like Zooey Deschanel, Mindy Kaling, Lena Dunham, and Sofia Coppola.
Ben Schrank, President and Publisher of Razorbill, negotiated the two-book deal with Chris Olivieros, Publisher of Drawn & Quarterly. Jessica Almon, Editor, Razorbill, will oversee the publication of all the Rookie Yearbooks. Rookie Yearbook 4 is scheduled for publication in Fall 2015. There will be print runs of Yearbooks 1 and 2 this October.
Tavi Gevinson is the editor-in-chief and founder of Rookie. Tavi’s career in media began when she created the style blog thestylerookie.com in 2008, when she was 11. In 2011, at 15, Tavi launched Rookie, an online magazine for teenage girls. Six days after its debut, Rookie received more than one million pageviews. Tavi has since spoken at TEDxTeen, theEconomist‘s The World in 2011, and the Sydney Opera House.
