Gayle Forman’s IF I STAY hits #1 on USA Today and New York Times Bestseller Lists

New York, NY – Gayle Forman’s internationally bestselling novel IF I STAY hits new heights this week, landing at #1 simultaneously on the USA Today and New York Times bestseller lists. IF I STAY is an emotionally arresting story of seventeen-year-old Mia as she walks the line between life and death in the twenty-four hours after a catastrophic car accident. With more than 2.4 million copies in print, the book that Entertainment Weekly called “beautifully written” is reaching new audiences nationwide in the run up to the release of the highly anticipated movie adaptation from New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures, in theatres August 22, 2014, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.

IF I STAY debuted in 2009 with five starred reviews, landed on five “best of the year lists,” including Amazon.com and Publishers Weekly, and has captivated readers worldwide. The recently released paperback movie tie-in edition features bonus material, including exclusive interviews with the stars of the movie, Chloë Grace Moretz and Jamie Blackley, and a sneak peak at Forman’s next novel, I WAS HERE (Viking, January 2015).

New Line Cinema’s and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures’ hotly anticipated movie adaptation of IF I STAY stars Chloë Grace Moretz (“Carrie,” the “Kick-Ass” films), Mireille Enos (TV’s “The Killing,” “World War Z”), Joshua Leonard (“Higher Ground”), Jamie Blackley (“Snow White and the Huntsman”) and Stacy Keach (“Nebraska”). Rounding out the main cast are Liana Liberato, Aisha Hinds, Jakob Davies and Gabrielle Rose.

R.J. Cutler directed the film from a screenplay by Shauna Cross based on Forman’s novel.  “If I Stay” is produced by Alison Greenspan, with Denise Di Novi, Forman and Brad Van Arragon serving as executive producers.

ABOUT IF I STAY:
Mia had everything: a loving family, a gorgeous, adoring boyfriend, and a bright future full of music and full of choices. Then, in an instant, almost all of that is taken from her. Mia doesn’t remember the accident, but she finds herself watching as paramedics vainly attempt to resuscitate her parents. She can’t recall how it happened, but she sees her own damaged body, and she is soon watching as friends and family keep vigil in the hospital waiting room.  Caught between life and death, between a happy past and an unknowable future, Mia spends one critical day contemplating the only decision she has left—the most important decision she’ll ever make.
