Remembering George McHugh Nicholson
Nicholson made a major breakthrough when he secured paperback rights to E.B. White’s classics Charlotte’s Web and Stuart Little. Publishers took notice and soon launched their own paperback imprints. Before ultimately joining Sterling Lord Literistic in 1995 as a children’s and young adult agent, Nicholson founded Delacorte Press and Yearling Books, and was publisher of Books for Children at The Viking Press.
Throughout his time as a publisher and agent, Nicholson was a trusted industry voice often called upon to provide insight on the inner workings of the business as well as the history and evolution of children’s book publishing. (PW)
