Simon Pulse to Publish New Trilogy By ‘New York Times’ Bestselling Author Scott Westerfeld And Award-Winning Co-Authors Margo Lanagan And Deborah Biancotti
New York, NY – Simon Pulse announced today that it will publish a new trilogy by Scott Westerfeld, the New York Times bestselling author of Afterworlds and the internationally bestselling Uglies series, and award-winning co-authors Margo Lanagan and Deborah Biancotti. The first book in the planned trilogy, Zeroes, will be published on September 29, 2015.
Who are the Zeroes? There’s Ethan, aka Scam, who’s got a voice inside him that’ll say anything you want to hear, whether it’s true or not. There’s Chizara, aka Crash, who can bring technology to its knees; Riley, aka Flicker, who can see through anyone’s eyes but her own; Thibault, aka Anonymous, who’s out of sight, out of mind; Nataniel, aka Bellwether, who can focus any crowd’s energy on a single goal; and Kelsie, who can amp up or damp down a mob’s emotions. They were all born in the year 2000, and live in Cambria, California. Their abilities make them anything but heroes—until a high stakes crisis changes everything.
Scott Westerfeld is the author of the Leviathan series, the first book of which was the winner of the 2010 Locus Award for Best Young Adult Fiction. His other novels include the New York Times bestseller Afterworlds, the internationally bestselling Uglies series, The Last Days, Peeps, So Yesterday, and the Midnighters trilogy. Margo Lanagan has been publishing stories for children, young adults and adult readers for 25 years. Her work has won numerous awards, including four World Fantasy Awards. Two of her books have been Michael L. Printz Honor books and she has been shortlisted for the Hugo and Nebula awards and for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize in the young adult division. Deborah Biancotti has written two short story collections, Bad Power and A Book of Endings. She’s been nominated for the Shirley Jackson Award and the William L. Crawford Award for Best First Fantasy Book.
“We’ve spent the last two years coming up with these characters, crafting what we hope is a totally new take on superpowers,” explains Westerfeld. “And we’re excited to finally unleash Zeroes on the world.”
Mara Anastas, Vice President, Publisher Simon Pulse and Aladdin Books acquired North American rights from Jill Grinberg of Jill Grinberg Literary Management, with Liesa Abrams, Vice President, Editorial Director Simon Pulse, editing. The second and third books in the trilogy will be published in fall 2016 and fall 2017, respectively.
“We are delighted to be working with Scott again, after the enormous success we’ve had publishing his work at Simon Pulse,” says Anastas. “And adding Margo Lanagan and Deborah Biancotti, two fantastically talented writers, to our list while at the same time launching this new trilogy is thrilling. And, to be honest, I’m a bit of a fangirl.”
