Librarians Who've Created "Unlimited Possibilities @ Your Library"
Here’s a look at some of the pioneer youth librarians that made the list:
- Lewis Caroll: Did you know that before penning the children’s classic Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Caroll served as a sub-librarian at the Christ Church at Oxford?
- Beverly Cleary: Another librarian-turned-author, Cleary began working in libraries at the age of 18, and earned her degree in library science from the University of Washington. Her experience ultimately inspired her to write for children.
- Kevin Ray: Children’s Librarian at the Cleveland Public Library, Ray is the recipient of the 2014 Carnegie Corporation of New York/New York Times I Love My Librarian Award for his service to young readers in the community. He launched a Writing Workshop series for young people at his library, and has worked with the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center in creating a popular reading group for teens.
- Betsy Bird: In addition to her work as New York Public Library Youth Materials Collection Specialist, Bird reviews children’s books for School Library Journal where she runs her own blog, A Fuse #8 Production.
- David Lopez: Also a recipient of the 2014 I Love My Librarian Award, Lopez helped to develop literacy/technology programs for youth and adults, in addition to ESL programming.
