Aladdin to Publish New Illustrated Children’s Book by Beth Stern
New York, NY – Aladdin Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing, will publish YODA GETS A BUDDY, an illustrated children’s book by television personality, animal activist, and bestselling author Beth Stern. News of the acquisition was announced by Mara Anastas, Vice President and Publisher. The book will be illustrated by Devin Crane, and released on December 1, 2015.
In YODA GETS A BUDDY, Beth Stern’s foster kittens tell a story of unconditional love and acceptance. Readers met Yoda in last year’s New York Times bestseller YODA: THE STORY OF A CAT AND HIS KITTENS, (November 2014). In Beth’s newest story, Yoda is busier than ever in the foster kitten room. Enter Buddy, a kitten who is blind. Because Buddy has had to recover from eye surgery, he has been with Beth and Howard longer than any of the other foster kittens and Yoda has made him his fostering partner. The kittens adore Buddy, mimicking his every move, with no clue he is blind. One day Frankie, a new foster, is introduced and from the very first moment, none of the kittens like him. But Buddy loves him and opens the other foster’s eyes and hearts to Frankie’s goodness and sweetness. And when they discover Buddy is the kitten with a true disability and challenge, the fosters learn that love truly is blind.
Said Beth Stern, “Buddy has been an inspiration to so many people. He definitely sees the world with his heart. He’s magical. Like Yoda.”
“The Aladdin team is delighted to bring another one of Beth’s heartwarming stories to readers of all ages,” said Mara Anastas.
World rights for the book were acquired from CAA by Aladdin Executive Editor Karen Nagel. Beth Stern will donate all proceeds from YODA GETS A BUDDY to North Shore Animal League America, the world’s largest no-kill rescue and adoption organization.
Beth Stern’s love for animals is her passion in life. Yoda: A Cat and His Kittens (2014) and Oh My Dog (2010) were both New York Times bestsellers. She is a proud foster parent and spokesperson for North Shore Animal League America. In addition to her animal rights activism, Beth is an on-air tv personality who has hosted shows for National Geographic, HGTV, Spike TV and Hallmark Channel’s annual Kitten Bowl and Hero Dog Awards. Beth lives with her husband Howard and their 6 rescue cats, Apple, Walter, Leon Bear, Charlie, Bella, and Yoda.
