Beyond the Page: Holly Brochmann and Leah Bowen
This week we are excited to feature Holly Brochmann and Leah Bowen, authors of A Feel Better Book for Little Tears, illustrated by Shirley Ng-Benitez (Magination Press, June 2019). Get to know them through fun questions below.
What’s your favorite (current or all-time) movie, dessert, and adult book?
Leah:
Favorite Movie: A League of Their Own
Favorite Dessert: Chocolate Brownies
Favorite Adult Book: Of Mess and Moxie by Jen Hatmaker
What is your zodiac sign? Which zodiac sign personality trait do you relate to most and least?
Leah: I am a Gemini and feel it is pretty spot on. I’m almost always fun-loving, affectionate, and social but those closest to me would probably agree that there are definitely two sides to me!
If you could live on any planet (and survive), which one would you choose and why?
Holly: My family always jokes that my dog, a strange little pug named Noodle, was an alien from Jupiter. So if Jupiter is full of Noodles, I would really love it there!
What was your favorite childhood TV show and why?
Leah: I loved (and still do) Winnie the Pooh. Looking back as an adult, there are so many wonderful lessons in that show of acceptance, love and connection.
What’s your Hogwarts house? What qualities about the house do you feel best suit you? Which qualities make you think the Sorting Hat should think again?
Holly: I think the Sorting Hat would have trouble placing me. I wish I could say I was a shoo-in for Gryffindor, but instead I think I have an interesting mix of qualities from each of the three other houses. However, I really identify with Hermione, so maybe I am a Gryffindor after all!
What did you want to be growing up?
Holly: I loved ocean animals, and still do, so I wanted to be a marine biologist. But it turned out I was much better at writing than science, so I went that route instead!
Tell us one fun insider-fact about A Feel Better Book for Little Tears?
Holly and Leah: Like our other titles, we wrote Little Tears late at night, after our young kids were in bed. Someday, we’d love to see what we can accomplish by writing during the day when our minds are fresh and alert!
