Award-Winning Author and Illustrator Jerry Craft to Keynote at Virtual BookFest @ Bank Street
New York, NY—August 24, 2021—The Center for Children’s Literature at Bank Street College of Education will host BookFest @ Bank Street, an annual event devoted to the celebration, discovery, and discussion of books for children and teens, virtually on Saturday, October 16, 2021.
Each year, the event, which is designed for adults, features luminaries from the children’s literature community. Authors, illustrators, editors, reviewers, and scholars will take part in three panel discussions at this year’s program. Award-winning author and illustrator Jerry Craft, winner of the 2020 Newbery Medal and Coretta Scott King Book Award and author of the graphic novel New Kid, will keynote.
Other panelists and moderators will include three-time Coretta Scott King winner April Harrison; Caldecott winners Oge Mora, Cozbi A. Cabrera, and Chris Myers; NSK Neustadt Laureate Cynthia Leitich Smith, and Newbery winner Carole Boston Weatherford. Panel discussions will revolve around Black women picture book biographers, new imprints and voices in the publishing world, and a conversation with the creators of the picture book Milo Imagines the World by Newbery medalist Matt de la Peña and Caldecott recipient Christian Robinson.
